- Jun's eyepatch is from a botched surgery when she was a child. Source of bullying and self esteem issues. - Jun's mother died at home. Jun's father was abroad at that time. - Jun was heavily dependant on her mother and her death crushed her. - Jun's father tried to approach her multiple times, only to be rejected. - Jun has been seeing a psychiatrist until before the Z-day for a constant supply of medicaments. She had stopped going to the therapy a long time ago. - Jun needs a daily dose of antidepressant pills or risks from withdrawal syndrome and abrupt mood changes.
This is what we have so far.

I had an idea for meeting her. I posted the initial meeting scene in the thread on /a/, which is pretty much how I still envision it.
But going on from there, I'm thinking of her living in the same student housing complex as the MC. She becomes unresponsive after you find her under the bed, so you leave her the food and go.
But later you get an IM from her on the computer. You're surprised, because the internet has been down for a long time, but she tells you that the college's network infrastructure is still running, and you can communicate with her over that system. She says she had seen you from around campus, before the zombies came, and she wanted to thank you for the food.
You'd text back and forth and occasionally visit her to bring her more food. On the computer, she can communicate normally, but in person she still shuts down at first and mostly won't talk.

IRC report:
Her working name is "Jun" (originally "Jun Yi", but they decided that making her name sound "generically-Asian" was better than confirming a nationality). She likes online gaming and wears an oversized hoodie and eyepatch. She also takes anti-depressants (which she's low on at the moment). She lost an eye when she was young and it made her a target for bullying, which was the start of her road toward being a shut-in.
Any input?

I like the thought of her running out of anti-depressants as the game continues on. If her path is the one chosen by the character, he could become a sort of replacement for her meds. If she's ignored by the MC, well... there are many dark roads that could be traversed on that one.

I think she should be an anime fan, too. I said in the thread on /a/, she could basically be /a/ personified, and one of the humorous aspects of the game would be the MC trying to connect with her on that level, but all he likes is "entry-level" stuff like Naruto, and whenever he talks about the anime he knows, she gets visibly flustered.

Looks like her name is Jun Yi "June". 19 year old Hikki, NEET, and game addict She sports an eyepatch and Oversized Hoodie. Has issues talking to people face to face.

How about this?
She's been seeing a psychiatrist before the zombie outbreak, is running out of her antidepressants and meets the MC while raiding a hospital/pharmacy. Failing to take her dose on time makes her particularly vulnerable to threats and prone to going berzerk - Venlafaxine, for example, is known for a nasty SSRI discontinuation syndrome.

I think by the time the MC comes across her, she should be full on hikki mode. That is, totally unwilling to leave her apartment. The MC would then slowly coax her out. I also like the idea that she would end up being one of the most resourceful allies to have, if you develop relations with her (not necessarily romantic relations, either). For instance, when the power inevitably goes out, she could help maintain a generator, and so forth.

She could be the bookworm type person, aiding in ways such as speaking a foreign language MC doesn't, helping a possible negotiation with another group. However, knowledge is all she has, and MC wil have to aid her on it. Like maintaining a generator; she knows which part needs fixing but MC has to scavenge them.

I'm going to fiddle around with a scenario for her today. Nothing permanent, just something. It should be posted after 5 PM EST, after I get out of my courses.

So IRC is working with the Idea of Hikki having an estranged relationship with her father who is a leader in the Bandit gang.

Part of her 'quests' would be simple delivering supplies to her, which would also help build relations between MC and the bandit gang.

Okay. Hikki is the daughter of the bandit faction leader. Her mother died while he was in the sixteen days war in Israel, and ever since then she's been plagued by panic attacks and social anxiety. These problems eventually lead to her failing her course at a remote university.
Ashamed, she broke off all contacts with her former study mates and quietly moved back to her home city without telling anyone she had returned.
Has a bad relationship with her father in spite of his determined efforts to remedy that.
MC meets her initially by reading her blog.
may tie into bandit route later on.

Any real reason for this? Feels a bit overly specific for no reason.

Unless we tie the Zombie apocalypse to the usage of biological weapons during what seems to be the beginning of World War three… no.
TL;DR: Dad was off fighting while mom was home dying.
