TL;DR: Dad was off fighting while mom was home dying. Good enough for me.

Her father is a war veteran? He could suffer from PTSD.

He certainly has problems, which is why he's adapted better than most to this outbreak. It's a home away from home.

so NEET has an eyepatch, her mom is dead, and her dad is a vet? I can see this as where we head to during her route to find her dad, only to break off with them after an attack or something.

Our original mock up was more like:
1. Meet Hikki 2. Leave Hikki 3.Meet Hikki's Dad 4.Dad ask you to get her for him 5. Rescue Hikki and meet up with Dad 6. BANDIT ROUTE START

Our Hikki's name is Jun (I believe we decided not to do Jun YI for nationality reasons.) She is a NEET and Hikki.
Jun's mother passed away at home when father was abroad.. Her mother was a emotional crutch for her depression and self-hate. Jun's mother died in Israel during a war which would cause Jun's mental and physical health to decline by panic attacks, social anxiety, and despair.
Jun's mental health was already declining before Z-Day started. She would make frequent visits to her psychiatrist to ease her problems. These visits have stopped since Z-day began.
Jun wears an Eyepatch. She was born with a condition that required surgery which was botched. This is the original cause of self-esteem problems and her increasing dependance on her mother.
These problems eventually lead to her failing her course at a remote university. Ashamed, she broke off all contacts with her former study mates and quietly moved back to her home city without telling anyone she had returned.
::
Things about her father.
Hikki's father is a var veteran who has come home. He is currently now-retired(?). Because of his absence from being away from Home/Hikki for so long, Hikki has grown a hatred for the man. However, Hikki's father still holds Jun dear to his heart.
Hikki's father attempted many times to better his relationships\ with his daughter. This did not happen. He was met with silence, doors being slammed, frequent screams from his daughter. And then Z-Day started.
The father realizing he would not be able to talk and be a father to her directly; he could create a gang that would indirectly father his daughter. This was the true intentions of the gang that is not known to the rest of the gang members.
In order to go down the Hikki route, the MC will choose to align himself with the gang and then meet the Hikki eventually.

We don't know why. These problems eventually lead to her failing her course at a remote university. First of all, it might work better if her mother died at home. If her mother died way off in Israel, then one wonders why Jun grew so dependent on her, if she's still in the States/Wherever. Also, the eyepatch came from a botched surgery/condition she was born with. It was the original cause of her self-esteem problems and her increasing dependance on her mothers support.

. Jun's mother died in Israel during a war Wasn't the original idea to have her father fighting a war as her mother slowly dies back home? The way you put it here it doesn't make much sense for Hikki to resent her father like she does.

Borned half blind and dependent on her mother? Sounds fine, but as a NEET, i see her independent where she can live by herself, I mean she did run away from school. I actually prefer her going to the same school as MC, first year, couldn't handle it, and just stays home. Her father wants to help, but I guess Jun loves her mom more, crushed by her death, she keeps her father away. I want the dad to be the reason why she CAN live alone, like he pays for everything to make her happy, I don't want a jerk dad, I want him to respect his daughter, and now that I heard about the reason why he made the bandit group, I kinda like the idea, I just hope these guys are legal good citizens.

Let's keep it simple people:
- Jun's eyepatch is from a botched surgery when she was a child. Source of bullying and self esteem issues. - Jun's mother died at home. Jun's father was abroad at that time. - Jun was heavily dependant on her mother and her death crushed her. - Jun's father tried to approach her multiple times, only to be rejected. - Jun has been seeing a psychiatrist until before the Z-day for a constant supply of medicaments. She had stopped going to the therapy a long time ago. - Jun needs a daily dose of antidepressant pills or risks from withdrawal syndrome and abrupt mood changes.

The way you put it here it doesn't make much sense for Hikki to resent her father like she does. Maybe father went for war, best not to say names, but just set him as the vet. My idea around this is that the mother was weak build, and both Jun and her mom are both very delicate, but I would like all of them to be a happy family. Until the father had to go to war, the mom ended up getting ill and died, and Jun blames her father for leaving her mother alone, I mean I like to think she still knows why he left, but still angry that he did and needs to be angry at him. Must she be a man hater? Some of this extra fluff on a girl who was suppose to be just a NEET with an eyepatch feels kinda heavy. I don't mind this family back story since it explains things, but who knows I see the meds becoming a useful side quest or something really repetitive.

Five and six are pretty meh but can still be worked with. . Must she be a man hater? Some of this extra fluff on a girl who was suppose to be just a NEET with an eyepatch feels kinda heavy. I'm all for cutting excess, the man hater isn't necessary or relevant and I'm still out on the whole meds thing.

This should be our base, this feels right with Jun. Maybe had her mom be sickly as well which could explain the eye thing, should we have it born with or an accident? Why would you do surgery on a kid? Only thing that caught me is about her psychiatrist. Do we need him? Taking pills sounds like enough for the NEET life, and many NEETs with social anxiety don't get pro help. Online can be her counseling.

I guess I slipped up and didn't catch that, sorry. In regards to Onestep, I wasn't aware that we confirmed the eyepatch. Sorry for the wordiness of the original. It helps me more than bullet points. ** Edited the original.
