I know 2 weeks is a tall order, but on my end I can have a script done and polished within 48 hours. The hardest part will be the art, I think, especially since we're understaffed in that area. Once we have a script, more threads on /a/ will perhaps bring more people. And we're lucky that the artists we do have now are pretty good.
I think two weeks is doable. But whether we make that deadline or not, just having one focuses us. More stringent deadlines can come later -- this is our test run, here.

I don't think it's good to say "these are our goals, but it's okay if we don't meet them" this early on. It kind of sets a bad tone for the rest of the project. It's better to set realistic goal and meet them.

It's better to set realistic goal and meet them. I have to agree with that. You're right. Yet at the same time I do want to make it a priority to do something concrete and put something out there as soon as we can. It proves we can do it and it energizes us as developers. Besides, I don't want to spend five years on this -- I think we could get it done in under a year if we worked at it.

Like I said before, our 2 week goal should be to check off 2 (maybe 3?) of those bulletpoints and make progress on the others. Then we can see how far along we are and set our next goal from there.
But you're 100% correct about aiming to get it as done as possible. The goals are just a minimum. It's only the first week, so we have things like finding staff to worry about, so we shouldn't set it too high yet.

Later on this week I'm planning of making a shitty rough draft promo video, since we have the names and the general idea of what we want our characters look like, I could spend an hour to get an idea of what I think it should look like. Would appreciate if we can confirm the names, character types, and character designs. Also brace for a really shitty beta promo.

It's better to set realistic goal and meet them. I see your point, but if there are certain things that can be done, but not main points. (i/e: artwork, storyboard, and programming) Then it should bee put to the side. (like the BGM, or such) Also, on the demo planned: I think it's ambitious to try and get a demo out in two weeks, but I think a month would be a lot better. Instead of pushing out something that fast, it's good to get stuff down first. Plus if we do this, we're going to need some testers. (Unless you want to include ourselves)

I think ticking off a few things on the list in 2 weeks is doable with a very short demo a target for a month's time. Providing we get enough artwork (character sprites etc) for the demo and some music we could have something presentable. Of course I'm sure we'll change the designs for everything several times after that, but I agree that getting something out there will get the ball rolling.

if we can finish the main points by the end of the month, then we can build off that foundation. honestly I don't see us releasing a demo until summer, but if you guys think we can do it in time, just make sure we don't feel like we have to rush this.

I agree that we should try to have loose deadlines. But Tom is right in the sense that it can't be too lenient, otherwise shit won't get done.

I think 2 weeks for a demo is a little too ambitious. I'd say a month. agreed. we gave ourselves a 2 week due date for the fundamental concept, can't start working on something that we don't have yet. Don't worry bro as long as we don't stop loving it will work out.

That said, we are clipping along at a fair pace. It might not be impossible to have it out within three weeks.

I'm going to create a new thread specifically about making the pieces of the demo come together. Can someone post exactly what goes into a demo? Like a list including Music, Art, Writing, Renpy Programming, and whatever else? I guess you don't need much more than those four things, in any case.

I've been keeping all of the demo pieces on track with each other.
Music - Musicfag's been working with Tom on the demo pieces (he seems to be done with a few of them)
Art - I've spoken with Arasato, and she's willing to start working on sprites/CGs as soon as the script is done
Programming - Wootnik's already hammering out specifics here
Writing - Tom's working on this
Backgrounds - I haven't been able to get in touch with the background guy yet, so I'm not even sure if he's still on-board for it

Do you think we should have specific threads devoted to demo progress? As in, "finished scripts for consideration", "finished art for consideration", etc? I'll set them up if you like the plan.

Personally, I think it's best to just let the pieces come together, then give feedback afterward. That way, we can see how it all looks together before approving or rejecting something.
